Our family took over the management of Wichita Raceway Park a little over a month ago. In that short time, we've done SO MUCH!
We've been asked this question so many times lately. Simply put, Randy LOVES drag racing BIG TIME and I LOVE Randy big time! So, because of that, I wanted to do everything I could to help our local track and drag racing succeed.
We've been around drag racing throughout our relationship. When we were dating (early 2000s), we watched (and maybe participated in) some street racing, drag racing in Walters, OK, here at our local track & even in Ennis at Texas Motorplex.
As our family grew and our kids got older (and more expensive), Randy's racing took a back seat. Any time he could be at the track or around cars, he would. Travel soccer, Volleyball tournaments & teenage daughters have taken up a ton of our time (and money) over the years, but racing always had a hold on our daddy.
We have great memories as a family being at the track!
Our oldest daughter even requested prom pictures with Daddy's car at the track..
Now, with one grown daughter, and one daughter playing sports
& a precious grandbaby, everyone is involved in the track.
Randy mentioned to me that the track was failing.. The busy owner just didn't have the time to devote to making it succeed, and hadn't been able to find someone to manage it. I threw out the idea of letting us manage the track to the owner, and he agreed.
I felt like with my experience in bookkeeping/accounting, owning a business, social media, fundraising & bossing people around... I could do it!
The first thing we did was form our management team. I'll handle the business side of things, Randy will be the Racing Director. We brought Tripp West on board to head up the Bracket Racing program & be our NHRA Liason.
He brings a TON of experience with drag racing & it was a no brainer!
We have cleaned, painted, done some improvements on the facility...we've raised money with sponsorships, we've hired some new staff, and we've even opened a concession stand.
We hosted our first big event with Cotton County Racing Promotions!
It was a big 3 day bracket race! It was a ton of work but SO fun!
We have a TON of things coming up.. this season is just getting started! We've created an outdoor "patio" behind our concession stand, we have a new merch line about to launch and we're talking to some fun groups about
bringing races to town!
